Medical Billing Pricing Models
Compare medical billing pricing models by the work covered and the way fees are calculated. Percentage, per-claim, monthly and hybrid proposals need different checks.
Medical Billing Pricing Models Compared
| Pricing model | How prices work | Compare carefully | Key question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Percentage of collections | A stated share of collected revenue | Monthly minimums and excluded receipts | Which collections count toward the fee? |
| Per claim | A fee for each defined claim transaction | Resubmissions, appeals and follow-up | What counts as a billable claim? |
| Monthly fee | A recurring amount for an agreed scope | Volume limits and extra services | What changes the monthly price? |
| Hybrid model | A base fee plus variable charges | The complete monthly calculation | How do fees change as the practice grows? |
Percentage of Collections
Ask what counts as collections: insurance receipts, patient payments, refunds, credits and receipts from old balances need clear treatment. Check whether the agreement has a minimum monthly fee.
Illustrative calculation only: a 5% fee applied to $100,000 in eligible monthly collections equals $5,000 before separately agreed charges. This shows the calculation; it is not a quoted rate or a market average.
Per-Claim Medical Billing Prices
Define the billable unit. An original claim, corrected claim, rejected submission and appeal may be treated differently. Ask which follow-up tasks the fee covers.
A low submission fee cannot be compared fairly with a proposal that includes ongoing denial work unless the service scope is aligned.
Monthly and Hybrid Medical Billing Prices
Check provider limits, claim limits and the process for changing the fee. A hybrid proposal may combine a base subscription with usage fees or a percentage element.
Compare medical billing company prices with a normal-month and a growth-month example. The most useful comparison shows how the fee changes when your workload changes.
